We Orchestrate Applause!
In an effort to foster a lifelong appreciation
of the arts, Bay Arts Alliance believes in beginning early through Arts in
Education programming. Each year, the programming provides live, quality
performances for over 10,000 area school children in grades 1, 3, and 5
at the Marina Civic Center in Downtown Panama City. Children come from all
over Bay and the surrounding counties enjoy a variety of experiences
including dance, theatre and art at no cost to the student, their parents or
the school. We also continue our only one of its kind programming in
partnership with Bay Regional Juvenile Detention Center. Due to the generous
support of our sponsors and members, Bay Arts Alliance is able to make a
lasting impression on local children through invaluable arts and culture
experiences. Bay Arts Alliance will be presenting the following
performances to our students:
Arts In Education 2009-2010 Schedule
January 11th, 2010 - Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing - 3rd grade show
Nine-year-old Peter Hatcher struggles with an end-of-the-school-year assignment to write
about the most important thing that happened to him during fourth grade. This is a daunting task
given how much took place that year, particularly when dealing with his toddler terror of a brother,
Fudge. Peter writes about his brother's refusal to eat, to open his mouth at the dentist, a
disastrous third birthday party, and getting blamed for Fudge knocking out his two front teeth.
Peter always has to help out with Fudge, who gets all the attention, while Peter gets all the blame.
It's enough to make a kid feel like a fourth grade nothing!
The final straw comes when Peter's pet turtle disappears... Peter has put up with Fudge
for too long. How can he get his parents to pay attention to him for a change?
February 5th, 2010 - Seussical - 1st grade show
The Cat in the Hat is the host and emcee (and all-around mischief-maker) in this romp
through the Seuss classics. When the sweet, good-natured elephant Horton hears a small cry for
help coming from a small speck of dust, he promises to rescue and guard it because
"a person's
a person, no matter how small".
On that small speck of dust lives JoJo, an imaginative young Who. JoJo has astounding
"thinks," in which anything's possible, but his parents believe this creativity is inappropriate for
the son of the Mayor of Who-Ville.
Meanwhile, the one-feathered bird, Miss Gertrude McFuzz, desperately wants Horton to
notice her. Maybe, she thinks, she just needs a more impressive tail. At the same time, the
amazingly lazy Mayzie La Bird connives, cajoles and convinces Horton to sit on her egg while
she goes off on a spree.
Will the planet of Who survive? Will Horton pay attention to Gertrude? Will Mayzie ever
return for her egg? Dr. Seuss's beloved classic characters find themselves intertwined in an
incredible crazy-quilt adventure, in which the power of imagination and the most miraculous
"think" ever save the day!
